A Night of Ukulele Magic: PICKAPICK Joins Jake Shimabukuro’s Guangzhou Show

On October 28, MAOLivehouse Guangzhou came alive with ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro’s spellbinding performance— a standout stop on his 2025 China Tour. As avid champions of ukulele culture, PICKAPICK was thrilled to be part of this unforgettable musical evening.

Jake Shimabukuro: Redefining the Ukulele

Hailing from Hawaii, Jake is hailed as the “Jimi Hendrix of the ukulele” for his genre-blending innovation. Starting at age 4, he shattered the instrument’s traditional limits, fusing classical, jazz, rock, and blues. His viral 2004 cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps and collaborations with icons like Yo-Yo Ma solidified his global reputation as a four-string trailblazer.

2025 China Tour & Guangzhou Show Highlights

Six years after his 2019 sold-out China debut, Jake returned for a four-city mainland tour (Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, Guangzhou) as part of his Asia Tour 2025. The nearly two-hour, intermission-free Guangzhou show wowed fans with classics like While My Guitar Gently Weeps, upbeat flamenco-inspired Let’s Dance, and original Dragon. His technical brilliance and heartfelt storytelling created an intimate, soul-stirring experience.

PICKAPICK’s Special Moment

For PICKAPICK, the night was extra memorable: we presented two signature commemorative ukuleles—Fading Blue and Blood Rose—to Jake, who graciously signed both. These crafted pieces, embodying our dedication to artistry, now bear the mark of the musician who fuels our love for the ukulele.

Jake’s performance was a celebration of music’s unifying power, mirroring PICKAPICK’s mission to create instruments that empower self-expression. Thank you, Jake, for inspiring countless ukulele lovers in Guangzhou—here’s to more melody and craft-driven moments ahead!
